Live From the Grate is based off a simple idea: record the works our poetry community is constantly making. Ollie Schminkey and Anja Beth stopped by The Grate to give us a little taste.

Filming was bittersweet since the once graffiti-covered walls of The Grate are now whitewashed with a few traces and eerily faded outlines of what once was. Macalester Facilities didn’t authorize the whitewashing and nobody knows who did it. Screenshots below from last year’s filming remind us of the art space we lost and that hopefully we’ll be able to bring back.

Walt Whitman’s quote along the stairs remains: “I sound my barbaric yawp over the rooftops of the world.”Grate Screenshot
